FLENJ offers awards of up to $1,000 to students who demonstrate world language accomplishments through literacy (essay writing), service, advocacy, or any combination of those three categories. Applications should demonstrate how receipt of the funding will have an innovative and /or transformative impact on the student.
Prompts for 2020 in each of the three categories can be found below.
||If you were an elephant, what color would you be? Respond in writing in the target language by citing four sources in the target language.
||Produce a narrative in the target language describing an opportunity that you took in order to improve your linguistic skills as well as the lives of others in your community. Submissions can include but are not limited to written texts.
||Design and create a compelling advertisement for the study of second languages in high school and beyond. You may use any medium you wish.
Up to three recipients are awarded annually. To be considered applicants must:
Be seniors planning to attend college in September of the next calendar year.
Be students in the world language in which they choose to compete.
Additionally, nominating teachers must be current members of FLENJ.
High school seniors must complete the application form. Nominating teachers must sign the application form. The form should be submitted electronically along with all supporting materials to firstname.lastname@example.org.
