Dear FLENJ members and fellow language educators:
Welcome…to the 2018-19 school year. And welcome to fall! While we did everything we could to hold onto the last vestiges of summer – warm sunny days, weekend barbecues, and maybe even some last dips in the pool – the school year is upon us.
September is a time to begin anew. Recharged and refreshed from the summer, teachers and students alike are anxious to get started again in teaching and learning. You may have new students before you. Maybe you’re in a new grade or even a new school. Maybe you’re teaching a new level or a new course. With so much that is new, nowis the time to make the changes you’ve been working toward. Don’t wait for a better time. Nowis the time to plant the seeds of change – in your classrooms, in your careers, in your lives.
FLENJ begins anew, as well. The board welcomes 4 new directors.
Christina Buck, Dana Pillaand Salvatore Venierobegin 3 year terms; and Tatiana Meza will fill a vacancy on the board through 2020. I am excited to bring their experience, expertise, and leadership to our organization!
Spotlight on FLENJ Friends
From time to time, I would like to highlight FLENJ “friends” who are willing to share their experiences as a FLENJ member or as a participant in FLENJ events.
This month, we are putting the spotlight on a member of the FLENJ Mentor Fellowship Program.
Jenny Rousos |FLENJ Member Since 2015
After several years of working in the corporate world, I decided to take a new path in my career and pursue my dream of teaching. While completing the educational requirements towards my licensure, I came across a friend who recommended I look into FLENJ. FLENJ was the answer to all my prayers. I quickly signed up for the mentoring program and was matched with phenomenal teachers/mentors. The guidance and mentoring I received helped me to quickly find and attain an excellent teaching position. I will always be appreciative and grateful for the support and guidance I received from FLENJ.
