PART I – Empowering Students through Assessment: The Critical Role of Feedback
May 3, 2010
Presenter: Gregory Duncan, Interprep, Inc.
This workshop is all about recognizing the important and formative role that feedback plays in foreign language learning and in developing life-long language learners. Throughout the workshop we will: examine the research about why feedback is so important; learn about the different kinds of feedback and how effective-or not-they are; look at-and practice-strategies that we can use to provide feedback to our students; consider how teachers can move toward becoming coaches for better student performance.
PART II – Everyone talks about developing students’ oral proficiency: So how do teachers do it?
May 21, 2010
Presenter: Joseph Goebel, The College of New Jersey
Quality world language teaching takes place where the National Foreign Language Standards, the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Guidelines and current second language acquisition theory and best practices all intersect. This hands-on workshop will examine oral proficiency development in light of the National Standards and current SLA theory! After a brief theoretical overview, participants will explore a variety of concrete practices which support students’ oral proficiency development. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their own activities to share with their colleagues.
